Recipe History: Mom made an altered version of the original Chex mix, adding cheerios and Cheez-it crackers, I made it Mom's way but changed from Cheez-its to Goldfish crackers, Shannon and Stacy make it my way (I think!). The beat goes on. I often make this with the store brand chex, which doesn't usually have the recipe on the box, so I had to copy it off a Crispix box standing in the store one day!
Ingredients:
3- 4 tablespoons margarine or butter, melted
1/2 teaspoons garlic salt
1/2 teaspoons onion salt
2 teaspoons lemon juice
4 teaspoons Worchesershire sauce
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
6 cups Crispix cereal
1 cup mixed nuts
1 cup pretzels
1 cup Goldfish crackers (cheese flavored)
1 cup Cheerios
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 250
- Melt margarine in 13x9 inch cake pan, once melted add seasonings and stir in.
- Add cereal, nuts, pretzels, crackers, and Cheerios and gently stir until coated.
- Bake for 45 - 60 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
- Spread on paper toweling to cool
- Store in airtight container.
- A little extra salt can be sprinkled on warm mixture if a saltier mix is desired.
- Pecans or almond can be added.
- If you want to add further variety to the mixture and add some other cereal, just reduce the chex to keep the total cup volume the same.
