Recipe History: this recipe has been used for all kinds of cut-outs (Christmas trees, stars, gingerbread men, hearts, saguaros, chiles...)!
Ingredients:
1 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Directions:
- Cream margarine; gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs and vanilla.
- Combine flour, baking powder and salt; blend into creamed mixture.
- Cover and chill.
- Using 1/2 of dough at a time, roll out to 1/4" thickness on lightly floured board.
- Cut out shapes.
- Bake on a lightly buttered cookie sheet in preheated 375 oven for approximately 10 minutes.
- Watch carefully; remove before browned.
- Let cool 1-2 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
- Cool completely on wire rack.
- Decorate as desired.
makes 3-1/2 dozen cookies
