Traditional Butter Cookies

Recipe History: this recipe has been used for all kinds of cut-outs (Christmas trees, stars, gingerbread men, hearts, saguaros, chiles...)!

Ingredients:
1 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
  • Cream margarine; gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt; blend into creamed mixture.
  • Cover and chill.
  • Using 1/2 of dough at a time, roll out to 1/4" thickness on lightly floured board.
  • Cut out shapes.
  • Bake on a lightly buttered cookie sheet in preheated 375 oven for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Watch carefully; remove before browned.
  • Let cool 1-2 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
  • Cool completely on wire rack.
  • Decorate as desired.

makes 3-1/2 dozen cookies
