Joy's Chow Mein

Recipe History: One of Joy's electric skillet recipes

Ingredients:

3 tblsp. oil
1 lg onion, coarsely chopped
1 to 2# cubed chicken, beef or pork
3 cups celery, sliced

1-1/2 cups water
3 tblsps. soy sauce
1 tblsp. molasses
1/2 tsp salt
1 can bean sprouts, drained
1 small can mushrooms, drained (or fresh) (optional)
1 small can water chestnuts, drained (optional)
1-1/2 tblsps. cornstarch mixed with a little water
toasted sliced almonds (optional)

Directions

  • Preheat electric skillet to 300 degrees. 
  • Add oil, onion, chicken and celery
  • Cook until celery and onion are crispy tender and meat is brown.
  • Add water, soy sauce, molasses, salt, and canned vegetables
  • Mix corn starch with water and add to skillet along with almonds
  • Simmer until thick (about 15 minutes).
  • Serve atop Chinese noodles or cooked rice.
Serves 8.
