Recipe History: This recipe has been around for over 100 years!
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
1 tblsp. vinegar
3 tsp. baking soda in 1/4 cup hot water
1/2 tblsp. ginger
1 tblsp. vanilla
1 tblsp. vanilla
4-1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
- Mix together and roll into balls the size of walnuts
- Then roll lightly in sugar
- Butter the cookie sheet for the first time only
- Press each ball down with a glass bottom dipped in sugar
- Butter cookie sheet lightly first time only
- Bake at 350 until light brown - 10 to 15 minutes.
