Recipe History: Got this recipe from a work associate when Shannon and Stacy were in grade school and usually make it during the holidays.
Ingredients:
1 Pkg. German Chocolate Cake Mix
2/3 cup canned milk
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 - 14 ounce pkg caramels
1 - 6 ounce pkg of semi-swet chocolate chips
1 cup pecans, chopped
Directions:
Melt caramels and 1/3cup milk in double boiler or microwave. Set aside and keep warm
Mix cake mix, 1/3 cup milk and margarine with fork or spoon (don't use mixer)
Sprerad 1/2 cake mixture into bottom of greased 9x13 pan.
Bake 8 minutes at 350
Sprinkle chocolate chips over top of hot cake and then caramel mixture
Crumble remaining cake mix on top
Bake an addtiional 20 minutes (do NOT bake any longer than 20 minutes even if it doesn't look done!)
Cool completely and cut into small squares.
Tip: Get the kids unwrapping the caramels as that takes forever!
